Mt. Baker, Washington

Dining
(Area Code 360)

The White Salmon Day Lodge offers food service with a beer and wine license and is open daily. The Heather Meadows Day Lodge has a brown-bag room, a cafeteria-style restaurant and a taproom; open weekends and holidays only. Restaurant-quality Mexican fare, soups, espresso and daily specials are available in the Raven Hot Café at the foot of Chairs 5, 6 and 3; open weekends and holidays only.

On your way home, for dinner you can't beat Milano's Cafe & Deli (599-2863; $–$$) at 9990 Mt. Baker Hwy. in Glacier, 17 miles away. Milano's specialty is fresh-made pasta at very reasonable prices. The salmon ravioli and tomato sauces regularly draw raves, and the Caesar salad may be the best in the region. There's an excellent selection of Italian wines and regional microbrews. The atmosphere is excitedly apres-ski, but most of the staff are snowboarders.
